HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, recently honoured the winners of the fourth Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST), which is one of the initiatives rolled out by the RTA with the aim of motivating the public and private sectors to curb traffic congestion and conserve the environment.

The RTA has completed the construction of a large number of bicycle stands as part of the initial phase of allocating bike stands at Dubai Metro stations on both the Red and Green Lines, with a view to enhancing integrated public transport systems in Dubai and accordingly encourage the public to use bikes, particularly on short trips. The rest of the bike stands planned, the total number of which sits at 3,000 stands, are set to be completed in the first quarter of this year.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, has revealed that the public transport means of the RTA, which span the Dubai Metro, public buses, marine transit modes and Dubai Taxi, lifted more than 346.5 million passengers in 2011 compared with 332 million passengers in 2010, according to recent figures released by the RTA’s Statistics Section.

A delegation from the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the RTA recently visited the Taxi Booking and Dispatch Centre at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency to supplement an initiative, entitled We are all in the front-end, aimed at enhancing the role of top executives in various RTA sectors and departments through communicating with external customers to upgrade the business process and service offering.
